What is a  a subluxation?
A subluxation is a misalignment in the spine causing nerve interference and joint problems including pain, arthritis and muscle spasms.

What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is a specific treatment procedure used by chiropractors to remove subluxations and restore normal joint alignment and normal joint movement.  The chiropractor skillfully uses a specific force, depth and direction with each adjustment to achieve the proper correction.

How long until I feel better?
Everyone and every spinal condition is unique.  Some people have almost immediate relief, for others it can take weeks.  Pain is often a poor indicator of actual change in the condition.   To properly correct a spinal condition normal joint motion, balance and alignment must be restored, not just the absence of pain.    The speed your body heals depends on many different factors such as diet, fitness and attitude.

Will too many adjustments make my spine "loose"?
No, adjusting does not cause "loose" joints.  Only specific joints are adjusted that need adjusted.

Can I have chiropractic adjustments after spinal surgery?
Yes.  Your chiropractor will avoid areas that have been surgically altered.  Spinal fusions often cause problems to the joints that surround the fused area.

Do chiropractors treat anything other than back and neck problems?
Chiropractic is well known for its effectiveness with complaints such as neck pain and lower back pain.  Chiropractic is also very effective for other conditions if there is a negative stress on the nervous system.  Chiropractic can be effective for children and infants, especially for colic and ear infections.  For more information on pediatric chiropractic research visit thei ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) website.

Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Yes.  Chiropractors are trained in many different techniques, including techniques specific to treating pregnant patients.  During pregnancy the mother's body undergoes stresses due to new weight distributions and often causes back pain.
